UNHCR's Inaccurate Evidence

The recent Supreme Court ruling on the Migration and Economic Development Partnership has been strongly criticized by the Rwandan government. The decision was based on inaccurate evidence submitted by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), which contradicts the organization's ongoing partnership with Rwanda in evacuating asylum seekers from Libya. Despite the ruling, Rwanda remains committed to providing care and support to refugees and asylum seekers.

Rwanda's Exemplary Treatment of Refugees

Rwanda has been praised by the UNHCR for its exemplary treatment of refugees and asylum seekers. The government has relocated over 1,700 individuals from Libya and currently cares for more than 130,000 refugees. The recent arrival of 169 new refugees further demonstrates Rwanda's commitment to providing a safe haven for those in need.

False Claims and Misleading Accusations

Despite Rwanda's efforts, some campaigners have demonized the country due to their disagreement with its policies. The UNHCR alleged that Rwanda has a 100% rejection rate for asylum seekers from certain regions, which is untrue. Only two individuals from Syria and Yemen were not considered for asylum because they had a quicker path to legal residence and are currently living and working in Rwanda with their families.

Rwanda's Motives and Vision

Rwanda's decision to offer a home to migrants is driven by the belief that dangerous journeys to Europe are unnecessary. The country aims to provide opportunities and build a prosperous future for migrants within Africa. However, this vision requires investment and support for economic development to unlock the continent's potential and create more opportunities for its people.

Critique the Policy, Not Rwanda

While criticism of the Migration and Economic Development Partnership is valid, it is important to refrain from attacking Rwanda and spreading false information. As a country that offers safety, opportunity, and a home to those in need, Rwanda deserves better treatment.
