The United Nations has sent scores of asylum seekers to Rwanda, despite opposing the UK plan to stop small boat Channel crossings. Home Secretary James Cleverly praised the UN scheme, which allowed 153 people to evacuate from Libya this week, highlighting Rwanda's hospitality.

UN Using Rwanda for Asylum Processing

Despite having doubts about Rwanda's system for the UK plan, insiders have revealed that the UN is using the country for third-party asylum processing. The Supreme Court has blocked ministers from deporting migrants to Rwanda, ruling the policy illegal and citing potential harm to asylum seekers if returned to their home country.

However, Mr. Cleverly praised Rwanda's capabilities and commitment to hosting refugees, stating that the UNHCR's actions prove their belief in Rwanda's safety and suitability for the asylum processing.

Concerns and International Obligations

Some right-wing Tory MPs are still concerned that the new legislation is not strong enough, as it allows for individual legal challenges to continue. Chancellor Rishi Sunak, on the other hand, has reassured that Rwanda would withdraw from any deal if Britain were to breach its international obligations.
