Who is Larry Hogan?

Born on May 25, 1956, Larry Hogan is an American politician and businessman from Washington D.C.

Politics runs in Larry's family, he is one of six children of late US Representative Lawrence Hogan.

Most of his formative years were spent between Florida and Landover, Maryland.

On January 21, 2014, he announced his campaign to succeed Martin O'Malley as Governor of Maryland.

On November 4 of the same year, Hogan defeated Democratic representative Anthony Brown and was elected governor.

By January 21, 2015, Hogan was sworn into office.

On November 6, 2018, he defeated Democratic candidate Ben Jealous and was reelected.

After two terms in office, Governor Hogan decided not to run a third time.

During his farewell speech, he told the crowd: “The honor of serving as your governor is second only to the honor of being your fellow Marylander.

“We ushered in the biggest economic turnaround in America and we are leaving the state in far better fiscal position than ever before in history

“I can tell you that there has not been a single day⁠, good or bad⁠, when I was not grateful for the privilege, and I am so proud of all that we accomplished together in our mission to change Maryland for the better.

“In Maryland, we have proven that this is still possible.

“Our story should be a beacon of hope for the nation, which seems more bitterly divided than ever.”

Who is Former Governor Hogan married to?

On May 1, 2004, Governor Hogan tied the knot with his longtime partner Yumi Kim; they had been dating since 2001.

Hogan is a stepfather to Yumi's three daughters from her first marriage; Julie, Kim, and Jaymi.

Yumi has the distinction of becoming the first Korean-American woman to serve as First Lady of a US state.

She is also an artist who specializes in abstract landscapes and teaches at the Maryland Institute College of Art.

Is Hogan running for Senate?

On February 9, 2024, Hogan announced his campaign for the US Senate.

He shared via social media: “It's official – I'm running for the United States Senate to fight for Maryland and fix the broken politics in Washington.

“Enough is enough. We can do so much better, but not if we keep electing the same kind of typical partisan politicians.

“Like the vast majority of Marylanders, I’m completely fed up with politics-as-usual and the politicians in Washington who are more interested in arguing than getting anything done for the people they represent.”

“I am running for the United States Senate – not to serve one party – but to stand up to both parties, fight for Maryland, and fix our nation’s broken politics.

“It’s what I did as Maryland’s governor, and it’s exactly how I’ll serve Maryland in the Senate. Let’s get back to work.”
