A DISGRACED ex-Navy officer has been stripped of his MBE after stealing almost £60,000 of his stepson’s inheritance.
Retired Lieutenant Commander Iain Shepherd, 66, had the honour revoked after being convicted of fraud and jailed.
The Queen approved the decision for it to be “cancelled and annulled” and his name “erased from the register”, according to official public record The Gazette.
It follows a campaign by his ex-wife Mary Shepherd.
Falklands veteran Shepherd — an ex-EU “ambassador of the sea” — forged her signature to set up a secret bank account to siphon £58,895 of her son Joshua Powell’s inheritance.
It was left by his late father Stephen Powell — who had been a “close friend” of Shepherd’s in the Navy.
The “devious” scheme began in December 2006 when Joshua, who has learning disabilities, was ten.
It was exposed a decade later by his mum.
Shepherd, who received the MBE from Prince William at Buckingham Palace in 2015, was convicted at Portsmouth crown court last year and jailed for three years and eight months.
Mary, of Chichester, West Sussex, said: “I’m delighted his MBE has been taken away.
“He should never have been awarded it because he was an undeclared bankrupt, a liar and a cheat.”
