Introduction

Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie are two of the more recognisable members of the Royal Family. And not only are the sisters very close in age, but it turns out that the siblings have an extremely tight relationship too. Here we take a look at the very close relationship between two Royal Princesses – Beatrice and Eugenie.

Told to Stay Out of the Limelight

It comes after the siblings have been told to stay out of the limelight. King Charles wanted to reduce the large number of extended royals that frequently appeared on the balcony of Buckingham Palace and instead put the working royals front and centre.

An Incredible Bond

Over the years, the Queen’s granddaughters have often spoken about their incredible bond and have previously described themselves as "each other’s rocks." Princess Beatrice was the first child born to the Duke and Duchess of York – Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson – back on August 8, 1988. The Duchess gave birth at London’s Portland Hospital for Women and Children, and Beatrice’s full name was announced as Beatrice Elizabeth Mary almost two weeks later. The couple – who divorced in 1996 – then welcomed Princess Eugenie, whose full name is Eugenie Victoria Helena, on March 23, 1990.

Princess Eugenie’s "Secret Weapon" Sister

Here, we take a look at Princess Eugenie’s close relationship with her "secret weapon" sister Beatrice. It comes after Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, who has recently moved to Portugal, have been told to stay out of the limelight, with claims that the public doesn’t want the sisters working on behalf of the royal family. Brand and culture expert Nick Ede said: "Beatrice is a great role model for others who experience family troubles. She also has the ability to see both sides of the coin, so with regards to Harry’s falling out with William and King Charles, she can be more open minded and encourage both sides to discuss, talk about and potentially heal that rift. I think if anyone can heal it it’ll be her or perhaps Princess Anne. Beatrice could well be the royals’ secret weapon."

Living in Luxury Together

Before Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank moved to Ivy Cottage, a home within Kensington Palace, the sisters lived together in a four-bedroom apartment at St James’s Palace. Not only did they live together, but they would go to each other when they needed help too. Eugenie continued: "I wouldn’t be able to make tough decisions without her. And my sister. My mum always says that we’re the only ones who know exactly what’s going on in each other’s lives."

Differences Make the Heart Grow Fonder

While some may think that differences could cause rifts between siblings, in this case, the bridge between the pair actually strengthens their relationship. In an interview with The Telegraph, Eugenie explained why she thinks they’re such good friends. She said: "We get on fantastically well, perhaps because we do and think different things. I am definitely not as polite as Beatrice, I have to say. I tell it as it is. I am shyer at first. Like, at a party I will say to Beatrice as we go in: ‘Oh, you go first.’ But then, when we’re actually in, I am much louder and she is far more polite and solicitous."

Princesses Fight Too

Although the sisters are extremely close, they have previously revealed that they do fight, just like all sisters. Princess Eugenie once told The Telegraph: "It’s quite funny how, like most sisters, we sometimes fight about clothes. I always take her clothes back to school, for instance, which she hates. We had a screaming argument over a pair of Converse trainers that I took back, which she said were hers and I said were mine. And in the end I realised they were hers when I found mine behind the door. Like all sisters, we have silly arguments about unimportant stuff, but we do love each other to death."

A Connection So Strong

Describing themselves as "each other’s rocks" in a joint interview with British Vogue, Eugenie revealed that the sisters often lean on each other when things get tough. She said: "There was a horrible article that had been written about Beatrice and she got really upset. We were just about to step out [at a Buckingham Palace garden party] and she had a bit of a wobble and cried. I was looking after her. And then about an hour later, I had a wobble and started crying and Bea was there for me."

Maid of Honour Duties

As a result of their close bond, it’s no surprise that back in 2018, as Eugenie made her way down to Windsor Castle for her royal nuptials, her maid of honour Beatrice was firmly by her side. In an interview in British Vogue, the Queen’s granddaughters spoke candidly about the pressures they face in the public eye, and what it’s really like to be modern royals. Beatrice said of her sister: "Euge is amazing. She’s a very modern bride." When asked about her maid of honour by TLC, Princess Eugenie said, "I can’t think of anyone I’d want by my side other than her."
