Meeting the Queen is always a memorable experience, and actor Daniel Craig can certainly attest to that. The James Bond star recently shared a "very funny" joke that the late monarch made at his expense.

Royal Banter

During an appearance on The Late Show, Daniel reminisced about filming an iconic, light-hearted sketch with Queen Elizabeth II for the 2012 London Olympics. While they were having their photograph taken, the Queen teasingly remarked, "Oh no, he's the one that doesn't smile."

A Regal Sense of Humor

Daniel described the Queen as "very funny" and someone who loves cracking jokes, even at his expense. Host Stephen Colbert then asked about the Queen's pet corgis, to which the actor replied, "I was rolling around on the floor with them most of the time. They're very friendly."

A Lasting Legacy

Daniel, who played James Bond from 2006 to 2021, was honored with the Order of Saint Michael and Saint George in the New Year's Honours List in December 2021. His character, James Bond, also receives the same honor in the film No Time to Die.

Paying Tribute

On September 8, 2022, the royal family announced the peaceful passing of Queen Elizabeth II at the age of 96. Daniel was among the A-listers paying tribute to the "incomparable" monarch, expressing his deep sadness and acknowledging her profound legacy.

An Iconic Moment

The sketch Daniel filmed with the Queen for London's 2012 Olympics became a cultural phenomenon. It featured the Queen and 007 leaving Buckingham Palace in a helicopter and parachuting into the stadium for the opening ceremony. The Queen's classic line, "Good evening, Mr Bond," added to the scene's allure.

A Surprising Revelation

It was later revealed that the royal family was kept in the dark about the sketch's concept because the Queen wanted it to be a surprise. Her Majesty insisted on delivering the famous line herself, as the alternative, "Good evening, James," wouldn't have fit with the Bond films.

According to royal aide Angela Kelly, the Queen was "very amused" by the idea and immediately agreed to participate. She even requested a speaking part, stating, "After all, he is coming to rescue me." The Queen's choice to say, "Good evening, Mr Bond," showcased her familiarity with the iconic film franchise.
