Fallout from Failed Spotify Deal

Meghan Markle has officially abandoned her Archetypes podcast after her £18 million Spotify deal fell through. The Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry withdrew their bid to trademark the name of the ill-fated streaming series.

Withdrawal of Trademark Bid

Meghan had previously sought to trademark the word Archetypes for their podcast series before giving up on the attempt. The couple's firm, Archewell Audio, had asked the US Patent and Trademark Office for exclusive naming rights, but the bid has now been formally withdrawn.

Notice of Abandonment

A notice on the USPTO website revealed the abandonment of Archewell Audio's trademark claim for Archetypes as a name for downloadable audio recordings and podcasts related to the cultural treatment of women and stereotypes facing women.

Podcast Scrapped After First Season

Meghan's podcast was dropped after just one season, consisting of 13 episodes in 31 months. The announcement came after her Spotify deal was canceled in June due to not meeting "productivity requirements."

Controversial Statements and Celebrity Guests

Meghan's Archetypes podcast generated controversy when she claimed that her son Archie had to be saved from a fire during a royal tour of Africa. The duchess also addressed the label of being "Duchess Difficult" and discussed her experience as a briefcase model on the TV game show Deal Or No Deal. Celebrity guests on the podcast included Serena Williams, Mariah Carey, Paris Hilton, and Candace Bushnell.

Trademark Application Rejected

The application to trademark the Archetypes title was initially rejected due to the "likelihood of confusion" with an existing trademark. The couple's representatives applied for an extension and later lodged a petition to revive the application, but have now filed an express abandonment.
