PRINCE Harry’s attempts to defend Meghan Markle from media scrutiny are “kind of heroic” but ultimately “misguided”, a royal source has warned.
An insider close to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s royal household told People magazine Harry, 35, is trying to ease the “pain” Meghan, 38, feels with his recent legal action against British papers.
The source said: “He sees the pain of his wife and the attacks she faces, and he wants to try to sort it out.
“It is kind of heroic in a way, but also misguided. It would be better to build relationships with the media.”
The source also fears Harry‘s approach could backfire in the long run.
The Duke and Duchess addressed the media scrutiny and struggles of life as a royal in their emotional ITV documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey.
Speaking on camera, Harry said: “Look, part of this job and part of any job, like everybody, means putting on a brave face and turning a cheek to a lot of the stuff.
“But again, for me and for my wife, of course, theres a lot of stuff that hurts especially when the majority of it is untrue.”
Meghan added: “I really tried to adopt this British sensibility of a stiff upper lip.
“I really tried, but I think that what that does internally is probably really damaging.
People’s source is not the only one to warn the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have gone too far.
Reacting to the documentary, BBC’s royal correspondent Jonny Dymond said: “I think they (the royal family) will be pretty horrified actually.”
While royal commentator Penny Junor described the interviews a “big mistake”.
The couple recently faced controversy over their use of four private jets in 11 days, Meghan’s expensive baby shower and their strained relationship with Harry’s brother Prince William and wife Kate Middleton.
