This Friday marks the one-year anniversary since the world said goodbye to Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away at the age of 96 after an impressive 70-year reign. Her state funeral was filled with grandeur, but also highlighted her passions – her love for pets, music, and her role as Commander-in-Chief of the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

One of the most emotional moments of the funeral was captured in an image of the Queen's beloved fell pony, Emma, standing alongside former head groom Terry Pendry on the Long Walk at Windsor. As the procession passed, Terry, 72, respectfully held Emma, whose saddle was draped in one of the Queen's favorite headscarves. The pony, named Emma, stamped her foot as the coffin approached, bidding a final farewell to their mistress.

A Loyal Companion: Emma the Pony

Emma had been the Queen's preferred horse for the last 15 years of her life, and Terry had the honor of riding her every day until his retirement in December. Now, he visits 24-year-old Emma at the Royal Mews in Windsor, where she currently resides. Describing Emma's character, Terry admires her remarkable disposition, saying, "She's an absolutely amazing pony."

An Unforgettable Ride

Just two months before her passing, Queen Elizabeth II last rode Emma. Terry recalled that her mind was crystal clear, and he considers it a privilege to have served the Queen and to have been able to bring Emma to say a final goodbye. He reflects on the Queen's deep affection for Emma, noting that she rode her on July 18, just two days before leaving for Scotland. Terry concludes, "I'd willingly give all my medals back to enjoy just one more day with Her Majesty."
