A spokesman stated, "Following her diagnosis with an early form of breast cancer this summer, Sarah, Duchess of York has now been diagnosed with malignant melanoma. Her dermatologist requested the removal and analysis of several moles while the Duchess was undergoing reconstructive surgery after her mastectomy. One of these moles has been identified as cancerous. She is currently undergoing further investigations to ensure early detection."
The spokesman continued, "Clearly, receiving another diagnosis so soon after treatment for breast cancer has been distressing, but the Duchess remains in good spirits. She would like to express her gratitude to the entire medical team that has supported her, especially her dermatologist, whose vigilance led to the detection of the illness."
