But taking to social media, Alex has shared the good news with fans that he has returned to filming the soap.

Posting an exterior shot of the Corrie set in Manchester, he wrote: “So glad to be back working again this week!

“I have missed you Coronation Street.”

Alex has played Simon in Corrie since 2009 but it is believed he decided to take some time out from work in February.

It’s thought that the last time he shot scenes was back in February when he was spotted on location for the filming of Daniel Osbourne and Daisy Midgely’s doomed nuptials.

Recently, his character has only been referenced on screen.

Last month, HOAR revealed how Alex had split from his student fiancée Mollie just six months after they announced their engagement.

It is believed he parted ways with the 19-year-old aspiring actress in March. The couple had been dating for three years.

Speaking last year about his engagement last year, Alex said: “I thought, ‘If I don’t do it now, I’ll keep getting more and more nervous’.

“I was pretty certain she’d say, ‘Yes’, but I was still bricking it. I can’t spend my life with anyone else.

“My parents married really young. They’ve always said to me that it seems like I’ve finally found someone I have a real connection with.

“My mum, especially, claims she knew Mollie was for me when she first met her.”

Following the break-up, Alex also briefly quit social media.

Alex was just six years old when he landed the role of Simon in Coronation Street.
