CORONATION Street’s boss has teased the possible return for a legendary villain.

The Cobbles has played home to many dastardly characters over the years, and Corrie boss Iain MacLeod has opened up about which one he would like to see darken people’s doors once more.

Coronation Street’s boss has teased the return of Harvey (Will Mellor)

Harvey’s family move to the cobbles after Damon’s arrival

Talking about a possible return for Harvey Gaskell, Iain told HOAR: “I would love to think at some point we can revisit Will Mellor.

“Tricky when characters are in jail, how do you import their influence into the show?

“We’ve overcome more difficult hurdles than that in the past.
At some point I’d love to think we can get Harvey on the street and stick him in a room with Damon.

“By the time Harvey were to get out, him and Damon would be absolute enemies. The idea of Harvey Vs Damon in the future is tantalising.”

Viewers were introduced to newcomer Damon Hay (Ciaran Griffiths) and were shocked to learn he is Harvey’s half-brother.

Damon arrived on the cobbles to see his son Jacob (Jack James Ryan) and rebuild their relationship – including getting to know girlfriend Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney).

But viewers saw Damon make a discreet phone call and shortly after Harvey was attacked in his cell by another prisoner with a bat.

After hearing about the attack, an unsettled Jacob suspects his dad might have something to do with it.

Damon is certainly going to bring the drama this year, as Iain claims he is “every bit as dangerous and brutal as Harvey.”

There is also a love interest on the cards.

Iain said: “He’s dangerous, first might seem more sophisticated than his brother Harvey, less of a blunt instrument.

“There’s loads of stuff to play as he reconnects with other family members and up-ends their lives as well.

“Currently working on June storylines a build-up and a colossal
explosion in that story involving Damon and this love story that will be on air then.”

Talking about Damon actor Ciaran joining the cast, Iain commented: “[I’m] Really excited about Ciaran’s presence, much like Damon has a sense of danger/magnetism in performance.

“Turns on a sixpence from charming and affable youth oriented businessman to terrifying dead eyed shark. Really riveting stuff. Pleased to have him.”

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1.
