A CORONATION Street star has been forced to speak out after he became the victim of a death hoax rumour.

Craig Charles was forced to publicly confirm he was very much alive and not dead following a hoax posted online.

It seems Craig found the whole saga funny as he humorously replied: “Rosemary I’m here I’m still alive can’t you hear me I’m alive HELP!!!!”

It appears the rumour started when a fan falsely claimed he had died in a tweet on Thursday.

The woman, called Rosmary, shocked fellow fans when she wrote: “RIP Craig.

“My ex-husband shouted “smeg head” once at him in the street.

“He did not take too kindly to it. But still. Very sad that he’s died. An icon.”

While some believed the woman, others questioned where she got the information from.

But the actor and presenter, 58, set the record straight after a fan tweeted him: “Someone thinks you might have died mate, let her know your safe and well.”

It seems Craig found the whole saga funny as he humorously replied: “Rosemary I’m here I’m still alive can’t you hear me I’m alive HELP!!!!”

After being proved wrong from the man in question, Rosmary responded: “Craig. Phew. False alarm. Christ on a bike. My son is in for a talking to, let me tell you!”

Craig played the role of cab driver Lloyd Mullaney in Coronation Street from 2006 until his departure in 2015.

However, he is best known for his roles as Dave Lister in the science fiction sitcom Red Dwarf.

The DJ is set to begin a tour called Craig Charles’ House Party across the UK.
