EMMERDALE’s barmaids of past and present joined forces in a sweet celebration marking the show – and The Woolpack’s – 50th anniversary.

The hour-long special celebrating the milestone moment for the ITV soap saw former cast members and long-standing fan favourites appear on screen to share their memories of their time on the soap.

Lucy Pargeter revealed the cast have a ‘cheeky half’ from the real Woolpack beer pumps at the end of each week

The Woolpack has been a defined institution for the past 50 years

But naturally, nothing quite jogs a memory like the stand-out moments of the Woolpack, even if you could barely see who was talking through the smoke back in the 90s.

“To have been a barmaid at the Woolpack… it’s a part of Emmerdale history,” said Lisa Riley, who plays Lisa Dingle.

Charlie Hardwick, who played Val Pollard from 2004 to 2017, added: “I’ve worked in a lot of bars in my life, and I could time the dialogue to actually pouring a pint of lager, to get to the end of the sentence and serve it on that line.”

Meanwhile, Elizabeth Estensen, aka Diane Sugden, said that often when she was pulling a shift behind the bar it would be an easy day for her, with her only line tending to be “What can I get ya, love?”

But it was Lucy Pargeter who gave away the best benefit of the show, and revealed: “It does real beer so on a Friday… cheeky half!”

What a way to end the week!

The charming special showed some of the biggest and best moments of Emmerdale, as it celebrated its landmark half-century anniversary.

Naturally, this is being marked with an absolutely showstopping gamechanger of a special stunt episode, which sees a storm hit town. The catastrophic effects of which we’ll see unfold over the next week.

By the sounds of it, the entire cast will be needing a pint by the end of it all!

Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7pm on ITV.
