HE was the murderous Corrie villain whose reign of terror reached a grisly end in a fatal stabbing.

Following his soap departure Pat Phelan actor Connor McIntyre, 62, has thrown himself into his artwork, producing dozens of striking paintings.

Connor McIntyre is best known for playing murderous Corrie resident Pat Phelan

He is now a celebrated artist

The actor and painter was even shortlisted for the prestigious Jackson Painting Prize this year – a competition recognising international artists of all styles.

His work has gone down a storm on an Instagram account dedicated to showcasing it.

One fan commented on his art: “Absolutely love this, fantastic. What a talent.”

Another said: “Such intricacy, such detail. Fantastic, Connor.“

A third posted: “Love it, Mr Mac. There’s so much to look at.”

Connor holds a First Class Honours Degree in Fine Art and in 2015 achieved a masters in Contemporary Art Practice.

He founded the Alamo Project – a large studio in Plymouth where he and wife Kate mentored fellow artists.

In an interview with Northern Life Magazine, he said of his topsy-turvy life: “I was one of those kids, I can hear my mum laughing, saying, ‘Always the wrong way around with you lad, we couldn’t get the police to get you to school. Now at 50 you decide to go to university!’

“If you’ve got a family, then to say, ‘I’m going to be an artist or an actor or a musician’, is slightly irresponsible. I feel very privileged whenever I’ve got any work, I’m the same as anyone else who is self-employed.”

One of the all-time great soap villains, Pat’s first victim was Gail Platt’s husband Michael Rodwell.

He didn’t directly kill him, but when Michael had a heart attack, Pat did nothing to help him and watched him die.

Then he had hostage Andy Carver murder Vinny Ashford, who had tried to do a runner after their dodgy flats scheme to con homeowners out of cash failed.

Pat had promised Andy his freedom in exchange for carrying out the murderous hit, but went back on his word and shot Andy dead.

He dumped the pair of them in a lake.

Luke Britton was his final victim after coming close to exposing the dodgy builder’s criminal ways.

Paying the ultimate price, Luke was shot and left to burn to death in a car blaze.

Connor left the cobbles in 2018
