Why has Adam Thomas quit Emmerdale?

HOAR revealed Adm quit Emmerdale in 2017 because he wanted to star in panto — but the soap’s bosses said no.

Adam was offered £100,000 for one panto role and was understandably keen to accept.

But chiefs at ITV told him he could not juggle his day job as soap bad boy Adam with the gig, having already had a lengthy stint off work for his appearance on I’m a Celeb.

He jokingly slammed soap bosses online, saying that his salary “wasn’t far off” that of a Tesco employee.

A source said: “The soap community is quite a small one and Adam had heard from stars on other shows that doing a panto run is a great little earner.

“But ITV wasn’t happy with him wanting to do both and said he had to choose.

“Unfortunately for them, he’s decided to go with panto.

“He had some time off in 2016 to take part in I’m A Celeb but it’s not sustainable long-term to keep giving him storylines that explains absences.

“It’s a great payday for him and he’s a popular character on Emmerdale, so the bosses had to let him make his decision in the hope he may come back in the future.”

At the time, he was the fourth star to exit the series in the space of a year after Kelvin Fletcher, Gemma Atkinson and Bill Ward.

His exit storyline saw him go down for the murder of Emma Barton, however, viewers now know that Moira Dingle was the real killer.

He went on to come third on the show, with comedian Joel Dommett coming second and Saturday Night Takeaway star Scarlett Moffatt winning the show.
