Nintendo Shines with Three Awards
In a surprising twist, it's not just one console that takes the crown, but rather all of them. Nintendo emerged as a big winner, taking home three awards at The Game Awards. Pikmin 4 won Best Strategy Game, Super Mario Bros. Wonder was voted Best Family Game, and Tears of the Kingdom secured the title of Best Action/Adventure Game.
Xbox Impresses with First-Party Games
Xbox also had a strong showing, with three wins for its big first-party games. Forza Motorsport took home two awards, winning Best Sports Game and Innovation in Accessibility. Additionally, Hi-Fi Rush, a surprise hit, won Best Audio Design.
PlayStation's Exclusives Shine
While PlayStation didn't win any awards for its first-party titles, three PlayStation console exclusives stole the spotlight. Resident Evil 8 won Best VR Game, Tchia won Games for Impact, and Final Fantasy 16 secured the title of Best Score. Final Fantasy Rebirth was also recognized as the Most Anticipated Game, while The Last of Us was hailed as the Best Adaptation.
Alan Wake 2 and Baldur's Gate 3 Make Waves
Despite being single titles, two games stood out and matched or surpassed the efforts of the big three consoles. Alan Wake 2 took home three awards for Best Direction, Best Art Direction, and Best Narrative. However, the ultimate winner of 2023 was Baldur's Gate 3, sweeping up an impressive six awards including Best Multiplayer, Best RPG, Best Community Support, Best Performance, Player's Voice, and Game of the Year.
