STEAM has added a warning to Windows users that the app will soon no longer run.

This means that anyone using Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 will no longer have access to their Steam library past January 1, 2023.

The Steam Deck will not be affected by the changes.

People who are using one of these operating systems will now receive a warning as soon as they open the app.

It reads: “Steam will stop running on Windows in xx days.”

The number of days changes every day to make people aware of how long they have until the shutdown.

If you are receiving this warning, then you will need to upgrade your operating system to prevent losing access to your Steam account.

Here’s how you can do this, depending on the Windows version you have.

How to upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 7/8/8.1?

Windows 11 is the latest Windows OS, but you will only need Windows 10 in order to gain access to your Steam library.

A number of older Windows operating systems such as Windows 7 Professional, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 can still upgrade to Windows 10 for free.

You can do this though the Windows website which will download and upgrade your OS automatically.

Do not attempt to upgrade through the Control Panel, as this will only offer you upgrades on the same version of Windows you are currently running.

If you are not eligible for a free upgrade, you may have to purchase a Windows 10 product key.

These can be purchased online, and a product key will be sent to your email.

You can then enter the code when prompted after downloading Windows 10 from the website.

If you are required to make a purchase, you can also upgrade to Windows’ latest version, Windows 11.

However, as this is a newer system it will cost significantly more, and is not required to continue using the Steam app.
