Xbox is known for being a budget-friendly option for gamers, offering one of the cheapest current-gen consoles on the market. With the Xbox Series S frequently dropping to less than £200 and the popular Game Pass subscription service, Xbox has become a go-to choice for gamers on a budget.

A New Option for Budget Gamers?

Recent discussions suggest that Xbox is considering a new option for gamers that would further solidify its reputation as a budget-friendly console. During the Wells Fargo TMT summit, Xbox's chief financial officer Tim Stuart mentioned the possibility of a new tier of Game Pass that would be free for players in regions like Africa, India, and Southeast Asia.

Stuart's statement hinted at the idea of allowing players to watch a short ad and then enjoy two hours of game streaming for free, similar to the model used by many free-to-play mobile games. While this would involve unskippable ads during gameplay, it could be an excellent opportunity for those who can't afford the monthly fee for the service.

Early Stages of Planning

Although Stuart only mentioned three regions, it's important to note that this idea is still in the early stages of planning. A lot more work would need to be done before a potential release. Xbox has already developed a Game Pass only console called the Keystone, but it is waiting for the right price point to release it. The Head of Microsoft Gaming, Phil Spencer, has stated that they are aiming for a $99 (£99) price point before launching the console.

An Exceptional Deal for Budget Gamers

If the Keystone console is released with this proposed free tier of Game Pass, it could be an exceptional deal for budget gamers. Game Pass already allows players to access a vast library of games, including big-budget titles, sometimes on day one. This new option would further enhance the affordability and accessibility of gaming for a wider audience.
