Over four million people in the UK live with diabetes, but did you know that you may be eligible for up to £173 a week in extra help?

The government offers direct payments to anyone with diabetes who qualifies for Personal Independence Payments (PIP).

What is PIP and Who is Eligible?

If you have a long-term health condition or disability and have difficulties with daily living or getting around, you may be eligible for PIP.

To qualify, you must be aged 16 or over and below the state pension age. You must also have these difficulties for at least three months and expect them to continue for nine months or more.

Difficulties with daily living can include preparing food, personal hygiene, dressing, reading, managing medications, and making financial decisions.

PIP payments are tax-free and not affected by your income or savings. You can also claim PIP alongside other benefits.

How Do You Apply for PIP?

To start a claim, you can call the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) on 0800 917 2222. Alternatively, you can visit gov.uk for more information.

When making a claim, you'll need to provide your contact details, date of birth, National Insurance number, bank account details, and your doctor or health worker's information.

After submitting your claim, you'll receive a form to fill in and may be invited for an assessment. A letter will then be sent to inform you of the decision.

If your claim is unsuccessful, you have the option to appeal.
