A comic showcasing the debut of Superman has been sold at an auction for a staggering £4.75million ($6m), setting a new world record.

Rare Find

The 1938 Action Comics No 1 features the iconic image of Superman effortlessly lifting a car above his head, marking the superhero's first-ever appearance.

Comic Book History

The comic book, with only 78 surviving copies out of 200,000 first editions, originally retailed for just 10 cents, equivalent to around £1.50 in today’s currency.

Record-Breaking Bids

This particular edition sparked a fierce bidding war at the auction in Dallas, US, surpassing the previous record set in April 2022 when another Action Comics No 1 was sold for £4.2million.

Comic Book Origins

The sale also included a letter from comic book writer Jerry Siegel to illustrator Russell Keaton in 1934, outlining the concept of Superman. The letter, shedding light on the origin of Clark Kent, was sold for £226,500.

Collectible Gems

Additionally, an Action Comics No 1 that had undergone restoration in the past was sold for a significant sum of £494,000 during the same auction.
