Discount retailer to merge former Laura Ashley and Poundstretcher stores

A bargain supermarket chain with 336 stores, Farmfoods, is set to close one of its branches in Grantham, Lincolnshire. However, the discount retailer has plans to open a new, larger store in Discovery Retail Park. The new premises, resulting from the merger of the former Laura Ashley and Poundstretcher stores, will open on October 7. Farmfoods, which originated in an Aberdeen butchers shop 60 years ago, now operates over 300 stores across the UK.

Store closures earlier this year

This isn't the first closure for Farmfoods in 2021. The store in Huddersfield closed on September 24, while the Cowgate store in Dundee shut its doors in March. Another store in Glasgow closed the month prior, and the West Bromwich location closed in May. In February, Farmfoods also closed its Baillieston branch in Glasgow.
