A Quest for the Perfect Christmas Tree

The heartwarming ad follows the journey of a young boy named Alfie, as he embarks on a quest to find the perfect Christmas tree. Along the way, he befriends a playful character who adds a touch of whimsy to the story.

Alfie's adventure begins when he finds a seed for a "Christmas tree" at a flea market, and with his grandma's help, he carefully nurtures it at home. To his surprise, the seed grows into a playful and mischievous Venus flytrap named Snapper.

A Tearjerker Moment

The heartwarming story takes a bittersweet turn when Snapper grows too big and causes chaos in the house, leading the family to cast him outside in the cold. This tearjerker moment leaves Alfie heartbroken, as he is determined not to abandon his newfound friend.

However, the advert ends on a heartwarming note as Snapper is embraced back into the family's life. Alfie and his family join Snapper in the garden, where they exchange Christmas gifts and celebrate together. In a playful twist, Snapper gobbles up the wrapped presents but keeps the wrapping paper, giving back the gifts to the family.

A Musical Celebration

The ad features a beautiful song called "Festa," performed by renowned opera artist Andrea Bocelli. The song, which means celebration, was specifically written and produced for the John Lewis advert.

In a charitable initiative, the song will be released as a longer version and sold as a charity single. A portion of the proceeds will go to John Lewis charity partners, supporting care-experienced young people and families in need.

This year's ad, with the strapline "Let Your Traditions Grow," is the first campaign by Saatchi and Saatchi after John Lewis switched agencies following a 14-year partnership.

This film celebrates the importance of family and evolving traditions, reminding us that a 'perfect' Christmas is about finding joy together with loved ones, no matter what our traditions may be."

The John Lewis Christmas advert will be launched on the retailer's social media channels and will also be broadcast on TV during Gogglebox on Friday. Members of the My John Lewis loyalty program had early access to the ad this morning.
