A HUGE Greggs shake-up means fans will be able to create their own sandwiches later this year.

The bakery giant said that it will trial the option for customers to customise their sandwich fillings.

Greggs fans will be happy about a mega shake up expected to roll out later this year

Currently, the only item customers can currently customise are pizza toppings.

But that can only be done when you order the snack through its click and collect service.

Sandwiches might not be the only items you could customise in the future.

Greggs said in its latest financial results: “In time we expect customisation to be extended to other elements of our made-in-store range.”

The pastry chain hasn’t revealed whether customers can customise hot sandwiches as well as cold ones.

It also hasn’t confirmed whether this will come at an extra cost, or whether there will be a limit on the number of fillings you can add.

Greggs hasn’t said exactly when fans can start customising their sandwiches.

We’ve asked for details on all of the above and will update this story when we know more.

It’s not the only menu shake-up Greggs has rolled out recently.

It has added two salad meal choices – BBQ Chicken & Sweetcorn Fritters, and Sweet Potato Bhaji & Rice.

And two new pizza flavours have been added: Mexican Chicken and Pepperoni Hot Shot.

It comes as Greggs is planning to open 150 new stores by the end of the year.

It currently has 2,239 stores, and is eyeing up taking this to 3,000 “in the coming years”.

But it did warn fans earlier this year of price hikes.

Pastry fans were left disappointed when the firm upped the price of its sausage rolls by 5p in January.

That was part of a wider increase that saw some products rise by 10p.

In March it forewarned of further “necessary” increases due to higher staff, energy and material costs.

Greggs revealed its summer clothes range in collaboration with Primark – and it includes sausage roll socks.

HOAR’s Sam Walker went to the new “mega” Greggs – but it wasn’t what he was expecting.
