The Torquay family which appeared on DIY SOS have revealed that not everything has been great since the band of builders and decorators moved out. Single dad Stuart 'Legsy' Philp, who is totally wheelchair-bound with Multiple Sclerosis, and his blind mum Lin, who is his carer, are anxious to stress how grateful they are to the BBC crew and the band of volunteers who moved into their home and transformed it 15 months ago. But they can now reveal that the build did not go quite as they wanted because plans for a rear extension never got off the ground.

Dad's Disappointment

A father who appeared on DIY SOS claims his house is worse than before, despite being promised a beautiful extension. Wheelchair-user Stuart Philips sought help from the BBC transformation team when his Multiple Sclerosis made life challenging in 2019.

Unfulfilled Promises

Plans to improve the living environment for Stuart, his mum Lin, and daughter Lauren hit a roadblock when permission to extend the property couldn't be obtained. The renovation team had to make do with redesigning the space, leaving Stuart with a less-than-ideal view.

Struggles and Gratitude

Although grateful for the efforts put in by the DIY SOS team, Stuart and his family find it challenging to adjust to the smaller space. Stuart expressed his gratitude while highlighting the difficulties of fitting three people in a space meant for two.

Challenges Faced

Stuart mentioned the struggle of maneuvering his wheelchair out of the back doors and Lin's cramped living conditions. Despite the challenges, they appreciate the volunteers' hard work and do not blame the BBC for the situation.

BBC's Response

A BBC spokesperson emphasized that the DIY SOS team takes building homes seriously and consults with contributors to meet their specific needs. They have been in touch with the Philips family to address and resolve concerns post-filming.
