GREGGS has plenty of low-cost goodies to satisfy any sweet and savoury cravings.
From the iconic sausage roll to freshly prepared sandwiches and baguettes, there’s lots to choose from.
We spoke to Stephen Robinson, a shopping expert and marketing veteran to find out what you should always buy at Greggs
But like many other companies, Greggs has been slowly increasing the prices of some of its products.
The beloved sausage roll has now risen to £1.20 and Greggs bosses have warned that prices could shoot up again later this year.
With this in mind, it’s more important than ever that fans know they’ve got the best value for their money.
We spoke to Stephen Robinson, founder of Outrank and digital marketing veteran to find out the two things to always buy at the bakery giant.
Plus, Stephen shared which items to avoid.
Pastries
You can’t go to Greggs without picking up a sausage roll.
The pastry treat is the bakery’s staple product.
And at only £1.20 the scrummy snack won’t burn through your budget too much either.
Stephen said: “When visiting Greggs, usually after I’m hungry from a food shop, I love to buy freshly baked pastries.
“After all, Greggs is well-known for its selection of pastries, such as sausage rolls, pasties, and pies.”
Meal deals
Customers can back a breakfast roll, hot drink or orange juice for £2.60.
And a lunchtime sandwich deal at Greggs costs just £3.60.
Stephen said: “There are also some fantastic sandwiches and lunch options at Greggs.
“They offer a range of rolls, sandwiches, baguettes, and other lunch options, including vegetarian and vegan choices.
“The tandoori and roast chicken baguette is at the top of my list at the moment, as well as the Mexican chicken wrap.
“These are convenient and often reasonably priced, making them a good choice for a quick lunch or light meal, like the pastries.”
Meanwhile, Sainsbury’s and Morrisons charge customers around the same as Greggs, at £3.60 for a meal deal, and Boots’ deal can cost 50p more, with deals on offer up to £4.
Tesco charges £3.40, but only for those with a Clubcard.
What items should I avoid?
It’s usually worth giving hot drinks a miss, according to Stephen.
A regular americano costs Greggs fans £1.60.
Meanwhile, fast-food rival McDonald’s is giving away the same caffeine fix for just £1.19.
Stephen said: “If you’re a coffee connoisseur, I’d visit a specialised coffee shop, rather than order from Greggs.
“While Greggs does serve coffee if you prefer a more extensive selection of speciality coffee drinks, you may find better options at dedicated coffee shops or cafes.
“Greggs’ coffee offerings are generally more basic and you can get more for your money elsewhere.”
But this is not to say that you can’t always get a cheap hot sip of something from the bakery giant.
