Which Lidl stores have closed in 2023 and 2024?

Lidl has recently closed and relocated a few stores due to poor building conditions and the need for replacement locations. The closures in 2023 include Drayton Road, Mile Cross; Sturry Road, Canterbury; Forton Road, Gosport; The Quadrant in Redditch town centre; Barrhead, Glasgow; and Beckenham, Bromley. In February and March 2024, Lidl plans to close additional branches in Paignton, Kentish Town, Bradford, Layland, Thornaby, and High Street, Hanham, Bristol. Workers affected by the closures have been offered roles at other locations.

Where is Lidl opening stores?

Lidl is looking to open hundreds of new locations across the UK. The exact locations have not been confirmed yet, but Lidl plans to open stores in high streets, standalone buildings, shopping centers, retail parks, and metropolitan areas in London and M25. The full list of potential locations includes sites across Great Britain, with a store target of 1,100 stores by the end of 2025.

How to save on your supermarket shop

In addition to Lidl's affordable prices, there are other ways to save on groceries. Look for yellow or red stickers on products to find reduced items. Make a list before shopping to avoid impulsive purchases. Consider buying own-brand products instead of premium ones. Take advantage of wonky veg and fruit schemes for discounted prices on imperfect produce. Low-income parents may qualify for Healthy Start vouchers. Some councils also offer supermarket vouchers through the Household Support Fund.
