Reduced-to-Clear Sale as Bensons for Beds Prepares to Shut Shop

A major furniture chain, Bensons for Beds, is set to close one of its 170 stores located in Sittingbourne. The store is currently holding a big reduced-to-clear sale ahead of its closure on Saturday.

Neighboring Stores Encourage Shoppers to Head Over

Bensons for Beds confirmed the closure and encouraged customers to visit their stores in Maidstone and Aylesford. The closure is part of the company's three-year transformation plan, which focuses on opening upgraded stores in the right locations to meet growing consumer needs.

Shoppers React on Social Media

Shoppers have taken to social media to express their disappointment and excitement. Some expressed their concerns about the increasing number of empty shops in Sittingbourne, while others were eager to take advantage of the sale items.

Profitability and Expansion Plans

Bensons for Beds, which went into administration in 2020, has returned to profitability after a successful turnaround plan. Like-for-like sales increased by 7% for the year, with online sales surging by 22%. The retailer has also opened 14 new shops and plans to open or relocate 35 more in 2022.

High Street Retailers Struggling

Many high street retailers, including Boots and Next Home, have been facing challenges in recent years, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. Rising energy costs and the shift towards online shopping have forced some retailers to close stores in order to cut costs. Pubs and restaurants have also been affected by these trends.

Other Closures in December

In addition to Bensons for Beds, several other shops, including Poundland, New Look, and Jack Wills, have announced closures in December. These closures are seen as a blow to the affected areas.
