Staff Deserve a Break

A major high street bargain shop with 215 locations is set to close all stores for two days over Christmas this year. The Range, along with the five soon-to-be-opened Wilko shops, will be pulling down the shutters to give staff a well-deserved break. This move is designed to enable colleagues to "enjoy time with friends and family".

Busy Shopping Day

Both retailers will close on December 26, also known as Boxing Day, which tends to be a busy day for shoppers. This is in addition to being closed on Christmas Day as usual. The chains have not yet confirmed whether they will also be shutting on New Year's Day.

Extended Hours and Future Plans

Many stores are opening for extended hours over the break to help people get their Christmas shopping sorted. The CEO of CDS Superstores, Alex Simpkin, expressed gratitude to the hard-working team members and emphasized the importance of everyone getting a chance to enjoy time with loved ones. He also mentioned plans to strengthen The Range brand and continue the roll-out of Wilko stores across the UK.

Changing Opening Hours

This is the first time in two years that The Range has closed on Boxing Day, as it usually offers end-of-season sales. Other retailers that will also be closed on Boxing Day include budget supermarkets Aldi, Iceland, and Lidl, as well as high street discounters Home Bargains and Poundland. Marks and Spencer will be closing all 400 stores for two days at Christmas as well.

Plan Your Shopping Trips

Customers will need to plan their shopping trips carefully from Boxing Day to New Year's Day as opening hours may change. It is advised to check local store times before making the trip. Most big retailers will have their opening times listed on their websites closer to Christmas.

Stay Updated

Stay updated on the plans of major chains for this year as they are announced. Dozens of chains across the country adjusted their opening hours last year to give their workers a well-earned break.

Meanwhile, a full list of shops closing all stores for at least one day over Christmas can be found here. Additionally, there could be a shortage of festive staples that may impact Christmas dinners this year.
