Don't Miss Out on Your Share

Martin Lewis, the renowned money-saving expert, is warning Brits not to miss out on claiming up to £40,000 in bereavement payments. This could be owed to those who are unmarried, have children, and have lost their partners since 2001.

Last Chance to Claim

Lewis emphasized the imminent deadline to claim the backdated bereavement support. The form must arrive by February 8, so time is running out. This is the last week to submit your claim, and Lewis stresses that it is crucial not to miss this opportunity.

Viewer's Success Story

One viewer, Sherry, shared her success story after heeding Lewis' previous warnings. She received a backdated payment of over £33,000, which will make a massive difference to her quality of life. Lewis continues to urge others to claim what they may be entitled to.

New Eligibility Rules

Last year, the Department for Work and Pensions changed the eligibility rules for Bereavement Support Payments and Widowed Parent's Allowance. Previously, benefits were only available to married couples and those in civil partnerships. However, the new rules opened payments up to couples who were living together and had children.

Check Your Eligibility

Lewis is urging anyone who may be unaware of these changes to check if they are eligible for the bereavement support payments. This could mean receiving the legacy benefit widowed parent's allowance for those who lost their partner before April 6, 2017, or the replacement benefit, bereavement support payment, for those who lost their partner on or after April 6, 2017.

How to Claim

If you receive child benefit, you will automatically receive the higher rates of bereavement support payments. However, to receive the full amount, you must claim within the first three months of your partner's death. You can apply online, by telephone, or by post. Make sure to have your National Insurance number, bank account details, and the necessary information about your partner's death.

Remember, the deadline for claiming is February 8, 2024. After this date, no claims for Widowed Parent's Allowance will be accepted. Don't miss out on this opportunity to receive the support you may be entitled to.
