Misleading Message

A mother was left devastated after receiving a text message that she thought was notifying her of a lottery jackpot win, only to discover it was a technical error. Dawn Rivers, 63, was thrilled when she saw a message with a "£" sign, assuming she had scooped up to £30,000, but it turned out to be a mere £10.

False Hope

The text she received from People's Postcode Lottery did not specify the amount of her win due to a technical fault. Dawn, who works part-time as a cleaner, was convinced she had hit the jackpot and eagerly awaited a visit from the lottery officials, even dressing up every morning in anticipation of receiving a big fat cheque.

A Disappointing Revelation

However, when she called to inquire about her win, she was informed that she had only won £10. The technical fault prevented the text alert from displaying the amount she had won, resulting in the mix-up.

Crushed Expectations

Expressing her disappointment, Dawn said, "You know when you think you have won something and your mouth dries up? That's what happened." Having played the lottery for over three years, she had already planned out how she would spend the money.

Technical Fault Acknowledged

A spokesperson for People's Postcode Lottery admitted that there had been a technical fault with the text message, which should have mentioned the amount of Dawn's win. However, they clarified that they never indicated a big win in the text and included a link that detailed the £10 prize.

Communication Breakdown

Unfortunately, Dawn, who admitted to struggling with technology, was unable to access the link provided. She expressed her frustration, stating, "I feel absolutely let down. They said it was an error. Why didn't you tell me? Why didn't you text me back? Why did you let me think all over Christmas that I had something to look forward to and at the end of it, you've taken it from me? It doesn't make sense."

People's Postcode Lottery assured that they have been in contact with Dawn and apologized for the confusion caused by the technical glitch.
