LEGO Avengers Advent Calendar Receives Backlash

LEGO fans are expressing their disappointment with the new Avengers advent calendar, claiming that it includes "lazy" gifts and leaves kids feeling cheated. The calendar, priced at £29.99 on the LEGO website, features characters such as Okoye, Doctor Strange, Captain America, Spider-Man, Wong, Iron Man, and Black Widow. However, some customers are upset that certain gifts are given on separate days, resulting in what they perceive as wasted days. For example, Dr Strange's one-piece cloak is the only gift on December 17, before Dr Strange is even unveiled on December 18.

Customers Express Their Frustration

Customers have taken to online platforms to express their frustration with the LEGO Avengers advent calendar. One reviewer on YouTube described the jetpack gift on day nine as "lazy," suggesting that it should have been given on the same day as Captain America. Another viewer commented that some days include gifts that should have been paired with other figures, such as the cloak with Dr Strange. The consensus among reviewers on the LEGO site is similar, with many customers feeling that the calendar is lacking.

Lego Faces Economic Challenges

Susannah Streeter, an expert from investment firm Hargreaves Lansdown, explained that LEGO, like other companies, is facing economic challenges due to inflation. This may explain why the company is attempting to trim products to increase profit margins. However, despite these challenges, LEGO continues to out-perform its competitors in the toy industry. As inflationary pressures ease, LEGO has an opportunity to be more generous, especially during the holiday season. Failing to do so may result in the company losing repeat customers for its advent calendars, although it is unlikely to affect sales of its core LEGO sets.

LEGO Responds to Criticism

A spokesperson for the LEGO Group defended their Avengers Advent Calendar, stating that it provides a fun and engaging experience for builders. The calendar includes a consistent number of pieces compared to other themed advent calendars, as well as seven different Minifigures and character accessories that require their own windows. LEGO hopes that Marvel and LEGO fans will enjoy the festive season with this calendar.
