More Seasonal Roles Available

With Christmas just ten weeks away, companies are preparing to hire hundreds of thousands of temporary staff for the holiday season. Supermarkets are among the biggest seasonal employers, with over 40,000 jobs already on offer. Tesco alone is looking to fill 30,000 positions, and other supermarkets are following suit.

Increased Demand for Festive Jobs

According to jobs board Adzuna, the number of temporary Christmas jobs has increased by 26% compared to last year. This surge in demand is likely due to the cost-of-living crisis, as more people are seeking additional seasonal work to earn extra money for the holidays.

Higher Pay Packets

On top of the increased number of jobs, pay rates for festive roles are averaging three percent higher this year. This is good news for workers looking to boost their income ahead of Christmas.

Opportunity for Job Seekers

Unemployed individuals can also benefit from Christmas jobs as a way to re-enter the job market. Employment minister Guy Opperman encourages jobseekers to take advantage of the many available seasonal vacancies and develop their skills for future job searches.

Supermarkets Offer Multiple Positions

Tesco is just one example of a supermarket with a massive recruitment drive for seasonal roles. The majority of vacancies are in Superstores and Extra stores, with various shifts available. There is also the potential for permanent positions after Christmas.

Toys and Grottos

Aside from supermarkets, toy shops like Smyths Toys and The Entertainer are also hiring seasonal staff. Smyths Toys is looking for 1,000 sales assistants, while The Entertainer needs 800 Seasonal Sales Assistants and Night Stock Assistants. There are also opportunities to work as elves at grottos and events, as well as Santa Claus at department stores and attractions.
