Help for Those in Need

Households in one part of England will receive £100 of free cash in cost of living payments through the Household Support Fund (HSF) worth £842 million. Councils in England have been allocated a portion of the fund and will distribute it to residents in need. Eligibility for the payment varies depending on location, but most cases involve low-income individuals or those receiving benefits.

Key Date for Claiming

Residents in Leeds with a weekly income of £400 or less may be eligible for a £100 payment. However, it's important to note that a key date must be met. To claim the funding from Leeds City Council, your household must be a recipient of Council Tax Support by October 23, 2023.

Eligibility Criteria

If eligible, the money will be automatically paid to you. Those with children or pensioners at home will receive £100, while those without children will receive £75. The payments are expected to be made by the end of November through a Post Office voucher. Council tax support is a discount on council tax payments, with the amount of the discount depending on income, unless you are part of a protected group such as pensioners, disabled people, single parents, carers, war widows, or war pensioners.

Other Forms of Assistance

If you're not eligible for the Household Support Fund, you may still be able to access other forms of support. Two more instalments of the £900 payment are set to be distributed, with the second payment coming in a few weeks. Additionally, those on benefits such as Universal Credit, Income Support, and Working Tax Credit may qualify for the remaining instalments. Pensioners may also receive a top-up of up to £300 to their Winter Fuel Payment. Energy firms like British Gas, EDF, E.On, and Scottish Power offer grants to customers struggling to make payments.
