Survey Shock: 7,000 Pubs on the Brink

Pressure Mounts on Chancellor to Cut Booze Duty

With 97% of pubs facing higher bills, the pressure is on Chancellor Jeremy Hunt to consider slashing booze duty for all alcohol types in the upcoming Budget. A poll conducted by Survation for the UK Spirits Alliance shows that 83% of pubs believe that a duty cut would positively impact their business.

Industry Calls for Support

Stephen Russell, co-founder of Copper Rivet distillery and spokesperson for the UKSA, expressed concern over the high number of pubs at risk of closure and emphasized the need for greater support from policymakers. Neema Rai, owner of London's Tamesis Dock and Battersea Barge floating pubs, urged the government to back a duty cut on spirits to help revive the struggling hospitality industry.
