British drink exports have seen a remarkable increase, surpassing £1 billion in just one year, according to business advisers Hazlewoods. The total value of exports rose from £8.3 billion in 2021/22 to an impressive £9.4 billion in the 12 months leading up to July.

Whisky Leads the Way

One of the driving forces behind this success is the strong demand for whisky, particularly from traditional markets in the EU such as France, Germany, Spain, and Poland. Additionally, India and Singapore have also shown a keen interest in British spirits.

Beer Sales Face Brexit-Related Challenges

While spirits have thrived, beer sales to the EU have faced hurdles due to Brexit-related red tape. The complexities of new regulations have impacted the export of beer, causing a decline in sales.

British Heritage Brands Garner International Appeal

Rebecca Copping, representative from Hazlewoods, explains that the success of British drink exports can be attributed to the popularity of British heritage brands, which have positioned themselves as a symbol of luxury in the global drinks market. Young, affluent consumers are increasingly purchasing these brands to showcase their status and success.

Despite economic challenges, the demand for luxury goods remains strong worldwide, contributing to the growth in drinks exports.
