Many people dismiss supermarket wines as low quality, but experts at Good Housekeeping have handpicked the best own-brand bottles available right now. In fact, some of these own-brand wines beat big-name rivals in both taste and value. The winner of Good Housekeeping's 2023 taste test is a bargain at just £6.99 per bottle. Here are the top picks:

Tesco Wins Big with Three Categories

Tesco proved its wine expertise by winning three categories for Malbec, Torrontes, and Shiraz, beating out competitors like Aldi, Lidl, Co-Op, Morrisons, Sainsbury's, and Waitrose.

Lidl's £6.99 Azinhaga de Ouro Portuguese Red Takes the Top Spot

Lidl emerged as a strong contender with two category wins and the highest overall score. Its Azinhaga de Ouro Portuguese Red DOC Douro Reserva received a score of 90 out of 100, making it the best supermarket red wine. The panel described it as a full-bodied wine that pairs well with barbecued meat and roast beef.

M&S's Impressive Wins

M&S also had a successful showing, with two category wins and high scores. The £10 M&S Myrtia Moschofilero Assyrtiko Rosé came in second place overall and won the best supermarket Rosé category. A case of six bottles of M&S Collection Susana Balbo Malbec won the runner-up spot for the supermarket Malbec category.
