Schools could soon be prohibited from socially transitioning children under a new law put forward by Liz Truss, former Prime Minister. Truss plans to introduce a Bill in the Commons that would make it illegal for teachers to use a child's preferred pronouns. The law, which currently lacks government support, would also ban the administration of puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones to individuals under the age of 18. This development comes ahead of the anticipated release of trans guidance for schools by the Department for Education next week.

Protecting Children and Defining Gender

Truss aims to redefine gender and ensure that individuals legally recognized as women cannot possess a penis. The Bill has garnered support from 11 Conservative MPs, including former Home Secretary Priti Patel. According to Truss, the current legislation fails to adequately safeguard young people and women. By enacting this law, Truss believes that the rights of women will be protected, the well-being of children ensured, and common sense upheld.
