Meghan Markle wore an all-black caped dress by Stella McCartney for the state funeral service, paying homage to past events she attended with the Queen.

She wore the same one in navy blue back in 2018 at a concert marking the Queen’s 92nd birthday at the Royal Albert Hall.

The high-neck dress fell below the knee to follow the royal dress code when attending formal royal events.

Meghan also wore a black hat to follow the strict dress code.

The etiquette rule dates back to the 1950s, when it was seen as improper for royal women and upper-class ladies to show their hair in public.

The Duchess was seen wearing a pair of pearl and diamond earrings at the service reportedly gifted to her by the Queen before her passing.

Meghan also wore the same pair of earrings during the lying-in-state ceremony on September 14.

The earrings are thought to be a personal favourite of the Queen’s and would often gift them to female members of the royal family.

Meghan and Prince Harry today sat behind King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla at the Queen’s emotional funeral.

The funeral, which began at 11am, comes after millions of mourners paid their respects to her in the last seven days.

Around 2,000 guests are attending the hour-long televised service, including Prime Minister Liz Truss and US President Joe Biden.

It comes as…

  • Solemn King Charles leads the Royal Family in an emotional procession behind the Queen’s coffin
  • Princess Charlotte, 7, and Prince George, 9, arrived at Westminster Abbey with mum Kate Middleton
  • Meghan Markle bowed her head as she joined the Royals
  • Prince Andrew wore a suit after being banned from his military uniform
  • Two thousand mourners including world leaders gathered for the funeral

The King once again lead his family in marching behind the Queen‘s coffin when it was moved from Westminster Hall to Westminster Abbey for the Queen’s funeral service.

He walked with his sister Princess Anne, Duke of York and Earl of Wessex and behind the quartet will be the Queen’s grandsons Peter Phillips, Duke of Sussex and the Prince of Wales.

They were followed by the late monarch’s son-in-law Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, the Duke of Gloucester, the Queen’s cousin, and her nephew the Earl of Snowdon.

The Queen’s coffin was carried during the procession on a 123-year-old gun carriage towed by 98 Royal Navy sailors in a tradition dating back to the funeral of Queen Victoria.

The Procession was led by a massed Pipes & Drums of Scottish and Irish Regiments, the Brigade of Gurkhas, and the Royal Air Force – numbering 200 musicians.

The procession will arrive at the west gate of Westminster Abbey at 10.52am when the bearer party will lift the coffin from the gun carriage and carry it into the Abbey for the state funeral service.

The service will be conducted by the Dean of Westminster.
