Unbeknownst to Bernie and Big Garth, a police officer captures the exchange on camera. As Bernie heads home with the cash, she is arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods. Legal trouble becomes the least of Bernie's worries as Paul receives devastating news about his prognosis.
A Glimmer of Hope
Billy Mayhew's meeting with the bishop seems to bring some hope. Bernie informs Dev Alahan that she will be accompanying Paul to his speech therapy session, putting the police on hold. Meanwhile, Paul confides in David Platt about his failed attempt to seduce Billy and is encouraged to mend his relationship with his husband.
A Heartbreaking Revelation
During a conversation with the speech therapist, Paul mentions his recent coughing fits. Bernie notices the therapist's concern and insists that they see the MND nurse. In the midst of Billy's joy over the bishop's decision to lift his suspension, a phone call from Bernie shatters the good mood. The MND nurse delivers the devastating news that Paul has only six to twelve months left to live.
