Red Dead Redemption Now Available on Nintendo and PlayStation

After a long wait, one of the most popular games of all time has finally arrived on more platforms. Previously only available on Xbox through backwards compatibility, Red Dead Redemption has now been released for PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch. While this is a simple port and not a remaster or remake, there are some exciting upgrades for new fans.

Xbox and PlayStation: A Graphic Showdown

The Xbox Series X version of Red Dead Redemption, despite running on the Xbox 360 version, is able to reach a resolution of 2160p. The Xbox Series S version caps at 1440p, still a notable improvement. On the PlayStation side, the PS4 and PS5 versions also offer upgrades from the original PS3 version, with output capabilities of 2160p. However, the key difference between Xbox and PlayStation lies in the range of graphical options available. PlayStation users can enjoy upgrades like anti-aliasing, resulting in a crisper image on the PS5.

Nintendo Switch: Lower Resolution, But Surprisingly Good

As expected, the resolution on the Nintendo Switch is lower. In handheld mode, the game runs at a maximum output of 720p, and in docked mode, it reaches 1080p. Despite these limitations, Red Dead Redemption runs surprisingly well on the Switch. However, there are some drawbacks, such as enemies being difficult to spot in handheld mode and aiming challenges. Additionally, there have been reports of occasional crashing, often after long play sessions, although progress is usually saved thanks to the auto-save function.

The Price of Upgrade

Overall, the PlayStation version appears to be the best choice for experiencing Red Dead Redemption with its improved graphics. However, it comes at a higher price, costing £15 ($20) more than the other versions. Players will need to decide for themselves if the enhanced visuals are worth the extra investment.
