Who created Minecraft?
Minecraft was created by Markus Persson using the Java programming language.
The project was first created as part of his hobby, but as soon as it was released, it gained popularity.
Persson sold out Minecraft to Microsoft in September 2014 for the amount of $2.5 billion.
By that time, Minecraft had already sold 15 million copies on all gaming consoles.

Who is Markus Persson?
Markus Persson – also known as Notch – is a Swedish video game programmer and designer born on June 1, 1979.
Following the sale of Minecraft, Markus decided to start enjoying his life more as he said: “Partying is not a sane way to spend money, but it’s fun.
“When we were young we did not have a lot of money at all, so I thought, if I ever get rich, I’m not going to become one of those boring rich people that doesn’t spend money.”
Persson bought a $70 million home in Beverly Hills following the sale of his successful video game, in December 2014, and he said that most of his money is spent on computer gear and travelling.
To this date, Markus has a net worth of $1.4 billion.
In his spare time, he still programs new games but he also expressed on Reddit his feelings of loneliness.
Markus is currently single but was previously married to Elin Zetterstrand from 2011 to 2012.
With her, he also had a daughter, Minna Almina Zelda Zetterstrand.
How much money does Minecraft make?
As of 2021, Minecraft made $380million in revenue, with $110 million coming from mobile sales.
In the app, Minecraft generated an amount of $160.7 million, which is an increase of 12.68 per cent from 2020.
In May 2020, the game’s developer Mojang announced that Minecraft was sold over 200 million times across all consoles.
Since 2012, the year that Minecraft made the most revenue was 2016, when it had an amount of $420million in sales.
