Xbox has just added one of the best real-time strategy games to its Game Pass lineup, and subscribers can play it for free. Age of Empires 4: Anniversary Edition is now available on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S consoles.
An Adapted Version for Console Players
This console version of Age of Empires 4 includes extensive tutorials to help new players get the hang of commanding forces with a gamepad. The celebrated RTS series has been adapted specifically for consoles, replacing the usual mouse and keyboard controls with full gamepad support.
Additional Content and Game Pass Release
The Anniversary Edition of Age of Empires 4 comes with extra content, such as new civilizations and maps. As an Xbox Game Studios title, it is also a day-one release on Xbox Game Pass. Subscribers can already enjoy the game on consoles and via cloud gaming at no additional cost.
A Legendary Strategy Series
Age of Empires is one of the best-selling strategy game series of all time, dating back to 1997. The latest installment is set during the High Middle Ages and early Renaissance. Players can command civilizations, build their armies, and engage in battles with other players or computer-controlled enemies.
Historical Campaigns and New Civilizations
Age of Empires 4 features four single-player campaigns that reenact historical events, including the Norman conquest of England, The Hundred Years' War, the expansion of the Mongol Empire, and the rise of the Grand Duchy of Moscow. The Anniversary Edition introduces two new civilizations: the Malians of West Africa and the Ottomans.
Extensive Tutorials and Multiplayer Modes
The console version of Age of Empires 4 includes detailed tutorials to help newcomers master the game and its controls. Additionally, it offers multiplayer modes where players can team up or compete against each other online, with support for up to eight players.
Available Now on Consoles
Age of Empires 4 was initially released for Windows PC on October 21, 2021, and is now available on Xbox consoles as of August 22, 2023.
