The Dancing On Ice pair performed a Rock of Ages routines last night

Inevitably they were quizzed by stand-in host Ranvir Singh about their relationship status.

But keeping their cool, they explained things are Strictly platonic.

Miles, 28, said: “We get it. Of course there’s going to be speculation of romance. It’s fun and it’s nice but also it’s like we really want to show how much work we’re putting into this. We don’t want it to be taken away like ‘aw, it’s a new couple or something’. We’re together every day, hours and hours a day, and we have such amazing friendship, genuinely.

“Every routine has a story, so yes there’s two dances we did, one was a ballet, one was A Thousand Years and it was all romantic and emotional, so I understand why the public think ‘oh, is there something there?’.”

Vanessa added: “You have to have that initial bond to create routines like that. I always said from the very beginning, ‘remember this is tough. Dancing on Ice is a lot of pressure, but keep the fun’.”

They turned the temperature up several notches all the same last night for Musicals Week when they performed to Slade’s Cum on Feel the Noize from Rock of Ages.

Miles transformed into glam rocker Stacee Jaxx and showed off his ripped torso as he slid around the rink in a long black wig and red bandanna.

He and Vanessa, 27, have always been respectful when discussing their partnership and do their beast not to fuel the rumour mill.

Vanessa recently told Closer magazine: “Miles and I are getting on really well on the ice.

“He’s an amazing skating partner. We’re still having so much fun and are laughing every day on the ice, so it’s just great. Miles is my student, my skate partner, and he respects me on the ice. I can feel the respect he has for me and for the sport.”

Miles was more direct about their connection, telling the Mirror: “No romance at all. I know fans will be disappointed because we do look good together and that’s great.

“But I like that we can bring that feel to our routine – especially with the Twilight song, which was romantic. I like the fact we can show that and then the lights are off and we’re friends. She’s just a brilliant performer and I’m happy that we can do both sides.”

Miles split from his personal trainer girlfriend Emelie Esquenet last year shortly after it was announced he was doing the skating competition.

Skater Vanessa is in a relationship with Dan Underwood, which came shortly after she was linked to her last Dancing On Ice partner, Joey Essex.

Nevertheless, Miles’ MIC co-star Emily Blackwell was convinced he would woo Vanessa.

She claimed bosses knew exactly what they were doing when they put them together.

She told Closer: “I think the Dancing On Ice producers paired Miles with the prettiest skater on purpose – they’re definitgely going to fall for each other.

“Who could resist Miles? He’s a really fun guy so I’m sure his partner will enjoy all those hour’s they’ll have to spend together.”

The pair have become good friends since meeting on the show
