MATT Hancock MP has been slammed by I’m A Celebrity viewers after offering up a “cringey” excuse for breaking Covid rules.
The shamed former health secretary was exposed by HOAR last year when he cheated on his wife Martha Hoyer Millar with his closest aide Gina Coladangelo, 43 – breaking his own lockdown rules in the process.
Matt was grilled by Babatúndé Aléshé in camp about the cheating scandal – and viewers spotted a major flaw in his story.
Babatúndé asked Matt: “How have things been?”
Matt replied: “It was really tough.”
Babatúndé commented: “Because you messed up.”
Matt replied: “I messed up and I fessed up. I resigned and it’s no excuse but I fell in love, right? That also had a lot of other consequences obviously.”
Babatúndé said: “You didn’t just ‘fell in love’ you were grabbing booty bruv!”
Matt responded: “Oh give over.”
Babatúndé laughed: “Sorry.”
Matt said: “You are a comedian.”
Viewers blasted Matt for claiming he “fessed up” – pointing out it was HOAR who broke the story.
One said: “Matt Hancock keeps saying things like “I fessed up” and “I resigned” and I’m like, sure. But only AFTER you were publicly found out. Not because you did the honourable thing and came forward.”
Another added: “F*** right off, you got caught by the journalist reporting it in the paper. You would have tried to get away with it for as long as you could.”
Continuing his heart to heart with Babatúndé about his marriage ending, Matt said: “That’s been hard, I obviously brought it on myself, so yeah… it’s been tough.”
Babatúndé asked: “Are you still with the lady?”
Matt replied: “With Gina? Yeah very much so, yeah, totally.
“That’ll be the best thing about being kicked out, seeing her on the bridge.”
Babatúndé said: “Look man, I don’t judge you bruv. I may take the p*** out of you.”
Matt laughed: “I don’t mind that.”
