The prices of Mr Kipling cakes, Cheerios cereal, and Coca-Cola have more than doubled in a year, according to new data. The cost of many of our favourite brands has shot up at supermarkets, exacerbating the cost of living crisis.

Soaring prices

Some examples of the steep price increases include Mr Kipling's Angel Slices, which are now £2.70 at Tesco compared to £1.29 last year – a rise of 110%. Honey Cheerios have seen a similar percentage increase, going from £1.20 to £2.50 at Ocado. A pack of eight cans of Coca-Cola Classic Cherry at Ocado has soared by 145%, rising from £2.37 to £5.80.

Even chocolate treats have been hit by the price hikes. Asda's six-pack of Chocolate Caramel Chews is now more than double the price last summer, increasing from 65p to over £1. Bolands Elite Chocolate Kimberley bars have also doubled in price from £1.30 to £2.60.

Prices double at discounters

Shoppers at discount supermarket Lidl have seen prices double as well. For example, Sol & Mar Palmeritas puff pastry biscuits have gone from 76p to £1.49.

Consumer advice

Consumer watchdog Which? has advised customers to shop around, stock up when they see a good price, or consider opting for own-brand or budget-range alternatives. Ele Clark of Which? stated, "Those with a sweet tooth are paying over twice as much for their favourites as they were this time last year."

Supermarket's own label price hike

A separate report by Which?, to be released on Friday, highlights that a supermarket's own label version of staple items such as rice, baked beans, and tea bags can cost three times as much as budget lines.
