The Christmas school break is fast approaching, and with the end of term in sight, it's time to start thinking about how to treat your child's teacher with a festive gift. We have five budget-friendly baking ideas that are sure to score you top marks!

Take the Biscuit

Whip up a batch of delicious biscuits by beating 100g of butter with 50g of caster sugar, and gradually add 150g of sifted self-raising flour. Form the dough into balls, press down with a fork, and bake at 180C until golden. All the ingredients can be found at Asda.

Sweet Nothing

Have a go at making super-simple, two-ingredient fudge. You'll need bars of milk or white chocolate and a tin of sweetened condensed milk, both available at Tesco. Melt the chocolate slowly in a saucepan, pour into a greased dish, let it cool, and chop into chunks. It's so easy and tastes delicious!

Best Bar None

Make your own festive chocolate slabs by melting bars of Fin Carre milk chocolate in a bowl over hot water. Spread the melted chocolate out on a tray covered in greaseproof paper. Crush a pack of Alesto fruit-and-nut mix and sprinkle it over the chocolate. Once it's cooled, break it into slabs. Find all the ingredients at Lidl.

Chocs Away

Homemade truffles are always a hit. Buy a bar of dark chocolate and the new Ballycastle chocolate-and-clementine cream from Aldi. Heat the cream in a saucepan, add chunks of chocolate until smooth, cool the mixture, roll into balls, and dust with Aldi cocoa powder. They're sure to impress!
