Shoppers have been given a full list of popular shops staying closed on Boxing Day this year. While most stores pull down the shutters on Christmas Day, there are several who keep the well-deserved break running until December 27.

Aldi Fans Disappointed

Aldi fans might be disappointed to hear the store will be closed on December 26. In true Christmas spirit, the supermarket giant is keeping their doors closed for an extra day to allow staff more quality time with their families. Richard Thornton, communications director at Aldi, confirmed: "We recognise that Christmas is an important time for many of our colleagues, and keeping our stores closed on Boxing Day gives them more time to spend with their families."

Bargain Hunters Saddened

Meanwhile, bargain hunters might be saddened to hear Poundland have also joined the bandwagon and won’t be welcoming customers into their 800 branches on December 26. Simon Wells, people director at Poundland said: "We really appreciate how hard our colleagues work during the year and closing the stores on these additional days over Christmas and New Year is our way of saying thank you to them – not least because this quarter has been especially busy with new store openings."

Home Bargains Supports Staff

And, Home Bargains are also allowing hard-working staff at their 600 stores to stay home on Boxing Day. The budget brand has announced that all of its locations will close early on Christmas Eve too. A spokesperson for Home Bargains said: "We know how hard all our colleagues have worked throughout the year. Being a family-run business, we recognise the importance of spending quality time with our loved ones."

Other retailers and big names are yet to reveal their Boxing Day plans, but HOAR will keep you updated. Last year, Aldi, Iceland, John Lewis, and Poundland were among the stores that remained closed. While others such as Sainsbury’s, Primark, Morrisons and B&M opened – but shut early.

This comes as more than half a dozen Christmas adverts have already been released in the lead up to the big day. Plus, a round-up of the top festive presents for boyfriends, dads, brothers and more this year have been revealed. And, Marks and Spencer have announced their famous Boxing Day 2023 deals.
