High street retailer Trespass announces closure of Sutton Coldfield branch

An outdoor clothes shop with over 300 stores nationwide, Trespass, has started a closing down sale for its branch in Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands. The branch is set to close just after Easter, and posters announcing the sale have already been put up in the store's windows.

More store closures expected

Last year, Trespass closed some of its 300-plus stores, and its outlet in Solihull is scheduled to close on January 16. The closure of the Sutton Coldfield branch is set for April 4, just days after the Easter weekend.

Possible sale of assets

Birmingham City Council owns the premises where the Trespass branch is located and is speculated to sell-off some of its assets, including retail sites like Sutton Coldfield, as it faces financial problems. However, nothing has been confirmed at this time.

Town centre revamp on the horizon

Sutton's town centre is awaiting a long-promised revamp, with new owners planning to introduce homes, a hotel, and more leisure venues at the Gracechurch Centre. The proposals are expected to be revealed early this year.

Mixed fortunes for Sutton's town centre

In 2023, Sutton's town centre saw both businesses moving out and new businesses moving in. Some of the businesses that moved out include Teako, Maxisaver, Sutton News, City Cobbler, Sebastian's bakery and coffee shop, and Lakeland. On the other hand, businesses like Mini Me, Prints and Treats café, Fabrik, The Parade Fade barbers, The Cake Solution café, Tokin Tea, and Crested School Wear opened their doors in the town centre.

Reason for closure unknown

Staff at the Trespass branch in Sutton Coldfield said they have not been given a reason for the closure. Trespass stores in Blackburn and other locations have also closed in recent months.

HOAR Online has contacted Trespass for comment.
