A major discount retailer, Poundland, is expanding its presence across the UK with the opening of several new stores today.
New Stores Opened in England
Poundland has already opened four new stores in England this weekend, with another one set to open at the end of September. The discount chain has been on an expansion spree, opening dozens of new stores in the first half of this year.
The new stores have been opened in Cardiff, Pontefract, Dartmouth, and Teignmouth. Poundland's new Cardiff store will be its largest in Wales, spanning approximately 20,000 sq ft and creating 24 new jobs. The store is located at Valegate Retail Park, Copthorne Way. In Pontefract, the chain has taken over a 15,000 sq ft unit on Baileygate Retail Park, previously occupied by Poundstretcher, and will create 31 new jobs.
Darren Kay, Poundland's director of retail, said, "We can't wait to open our doors in Pontefract, Cardiff, Dartmouth, and Teignmouth, and we know from talking to customers that shoppers are looking forward to the opening of our new store. We're working hard to make sure our new stores will be a cracking example of the breadth of what we can offer in a convenient location. And just like all our stores, it will offer amazing value to customers looking to make their money go further."

Here are the Poundland stores that have already opened this month:
- Pontefract – Opened on September 9
- Cardiff – Opened on September 9
- Dartmouth – Opened on September 9
- Teignmouth – Opened on September 9
One more store is scheduled to open on September 23 in Ryde.
However, the opening of the store in Stafford, originally planned for September 16, has been delayed until mid-October.
In addition to the stores already opened this month, three new stores opened on September 2 in Torquay, Ipswich, and Selby.
While Poundland is expanding its presence across the UK, it has also closed some stores this year. Recently, on September 5, its store in St. Helen's closed for good.
